Line Clearance

TL;DR

Documented inspection that a production line is empty of the previous product and ready for the next — the single biggest defence against allergen cross-contact and mix-up.

Line clearance is the structured check, performed and signed between every product changeover, confirming the line is clear of: previous-product material, previous-product packaging, previous-product labels, and any work-in-progress. Required by 21 CFR 117 (food), 21 CFR 211.130 (pharma packaging), GFSI schemes, ISO 22000.

Failure to clear lines is the root cause of an enormous proportion of allergen recalls. V5 enforces line clearance as a kiosk step with photo evidence and two-person sign-off; the work order cannot start until the previous-WO clearance is signed.
