Asda Supplier Code

Asda's Supplier Code is the document defining what an own-brand supplier must operate against above BRCGS Issue 9. It covers food safety, quality, ethical trade (Sedex/SMETA), packaging compliance and sustainability commitments. It is updated periodically and accompanied by category-specific manuals and KPIs.

Asda was acquired from Walmart by the EG/TDR consortium and now operates as a UK-headquartered business; its Supplier Code reflects an evolving combination of UK retail-grocery norms and a Walmart-era operational rigour around complaint trends, recall readiness and packaging compliance.

International Procurement & Logistics (IPL) is Asda's in-house manufacturing and procurement arm — fresh produce pack-houses, meat processing and other categories. Like Morrisons Manufacturing, IPL sets a high internal operating bar that influences expectations of external suppliers. The vertical-traceability bias is less pronounced than Morrisons but still material in the categories where IPL operates.

Asda technical visits are a mix of announced evidence reviews and shorter unannounced operational visits. Complaint dashboards and foreign-body trend lines often drive the agenda; a supplier with a clean BRCGS but a deteriorating complaint trend will see escalating technical engagement until the trend reverses.

Recall-readiness drills are a recurring Asda emphasis. Suppliers are expected to demonstrate sub-four-hour mass-balance and customer-shipment-list output on demand, with documented execution of a drill in the last twelve months.

• Letting the recall drill slip past twelve months — Asda specifically asks for recent evidence.
• Discounting the complaint-trend signal because absolute volume is small.
