Foreign Material Control
foreign object control · fmc
The program of physical, magnetic, optical, and X-ray controls that prevents and detects foreign material (metal, plastic, glass, wood) in food and dietary supplement products.
Foreign Material Control combines prevention (no glass policies, brittle-plastic registers, tool control), detection (magnets, metal detectors, X-ray, vision systems), and response (hold, investigate, root-cause) for any contamination event. It is a named preventive control under FSMA PCHF and a GFSI scheme requirement.
V5 ties detector calibration, rejection events, and downstream hold/disposition to the batch in real time so a single metal detector reject creates the deviation, hold, and traceability event in one step.
