Standardised GS1 visibility events (Object, Aggregation, Transaction, Transformation) answering what, when, where, why for a serialised item.
EPCIS is the GS1 standard for sharing visibility events across a supply chain. The four core event types — Object (a serial was observed), Aggregation (children added/removed from a parent), Transaction (linked to a business doc), and Transformation (inputs became outputs) — encode the what/when/where/why. EPCIS 2.0 adds JSON-LD bindings and richer sensor data. DSCSA, FSMA §204, and EU FMD all rely on EPCIS-style data.
V5 emits EPCIS events natively at every commission, pack, ship, and receive — there is no separate serialisation system to bolt on.
