V5 Ultimate vs Veeva Vault Quality
V5 Ultimate vs Veeva Vault Quality
Veeva Vault Quality is the cloud QMS most large pharma and biotech buyers shortlist. It is strong on document management, training, periodic review and audit, and integrates tightly with the rest of the Veeva Vault platform. V5 Ultimate covers the same QMS surface area, plus the execution layer (MES + WMS) that Vault does not own. This is the honest version of where each one is the right answer.

What each product actually is
Veeva Vault Quality is a cloud-only eQMS — QualityDocs, Training, QMS (CAPA / deviations / change), Station Manager for line documentation, and a periodic-review engine. It assumes manufacturing execution lives in a separate MES (Werum PAS-X, Körber, Tulip, or a custom build). V5 Ultimate is one platform: execution, warehouse and quality on a single validated stack, with the production record self-building as people work. Vault is the right answer for organisations who already run their floor on a different MES and only want a modern QMS. V5 is the right answer for organisations who want to retire the dual-system architecture entirely.
Execution on the floor
Vault doesn't run the line — it documents that the line was run. V5 IS the line: operator UX at the kiosk, scale streaming, scanner-driven weigh-out, two-person dispense, in-process check gating, label printing at the station, equipment lockouts for out-of-calibration tools. The MBR / BMR is the live UI the operator is touching, not a PDF assembled at end-of-batch.
Deployment
Vault is cloud-only — Veeva does not offer an on-premises or air-gap deployment. For most pharma this is fine; for radiopharma, defence-linked, or certain blood/tissue customers it is a hard blocker. V5 ships in two deployments: Lovable Cloud (multi-tenant Postgres with row-level isolation) and V5 Ultimate On-Premises (containerised, air-gap capable, customer-owned keys and data). The validation pack is the same in both.
AI behaviour
Veeva has shipped Vault Direct Data and a series of generative-AI assists (document drafting, deviation summarisation). V5's AI layer is regime-aware — it changes terminology, evidence templates and prompts based on which industry the tenant is in (pharma BMR vs medical-devices DHR vs FSMA 204 KDE vs MoCRA). Both vendors are explicit that AI does not e-sign under Part 11; a qualified human always does.
Pricing model
Veeva quotes per Vault module per year on a multi-year subscription, with a minimum that effectively prices small manufacturers out. V5 publishes per-user / month for Cloud and an annual term licence for On-Premises, with a free trial and no minimum seat count for self-serve evaluation. For enterprise procurement V5's MSA and an on-prem term-licence schedule are public on the site.
Where Veeva Vault Quality is the better fit
Large pharma / biotech already standardised on the Veeva Vault platform (RIM, Safety, CTMS), organisations who want their QMS deeply integrated with regulatory submissions and clinical, or buyers whose floor MES is non-negotiable and only the quality layer is being replaced.
Where V5 Ultimate is the better fit
Single-system buyers who want execution + quality on one validated platform, on-prem / air-gap requirements, mid-market manufacturers priced out of Veeva, multi-industry sites (pharma + food + device), or teams that want a free trial before they sign a multi-year contract.

Frequently asked
Can V5 Ultimate replace Veeva Vault Quality?
Yes for the QMS modules — QualityDocs, Training, QMS, Station Manager equivalents are all native in V5. The harder swap is for organisations whose Vault Quality is tightly integrated with Vault RIM or Vault Clinical; those usually keep Vault for regulatory and run V5 for execution + floor quality.
Does V5 integrate with Veeva Vault?
Yes — V5 has REST + webhook integration patterns and can push controlled documents, training records, and CAPA references into Vault, or pull master data the other way. Most customers use this for a transition period rather than as a permanent architecture.
Is V5 cheaper than Veeva for a small manufacturer?
For most sub-200-user sites, yes — Veeva's minimum module + seat commitments price it out of the SME market, while V5 has a published per-user / month price with no minimum. For a 1000+ user multi-site enterprise the comparison narrows and Order Form negotiation determines the answer.
